As the government prepares to present the 2025 budget statement, Dr. Gideon Boako, Deputy Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament and MP for Tano North, has urged the Finance Ministry to ensure that the budget reflects accurate and credible data.
Speaking ahead of Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s budget presentation today, Tuesday, March 11, Dr. Boako emphasized that Ghanaians deserve financial transparency to foster informed decision-making and public trust.
He cautioned against the manipulation of economic figures, stressing that overestimating revenue or understating expenditure would only erode confidence in the government’s financial management.
“The people of Ghana expect a budget that reflects the true state of our economy, not manipulated figures that paint an inaccurate picture,” he stated.
Dr. Boako also highlighted the need for the budget to address the economic hardships faced by ordinary Ghanaians. With high inflation and economic uncertainty affecting businesses and households, he called for realistic projections and policy measures backed by solid data.
“The government must be honest about the challenges and propose practical solutions. This is not the time for exaggerated promises,” he added.
Additionally, he urged Parliament and civil society groups to scrutinize the budget thoroughly to prevent misinformation and ensure accountability in its implementation.
“We will not allow this budget to be a tool for deception. Ghanaians deserve the truth, and we will ensure they get it,” Dr. Boako affirmed, reiterating the opposition’s commitment to holding the government accountable.
