The Minority Caucus in Parliament has taken a decisive step in pressing for the declaration of the 2024 parliamentary results for Ablekuma North, describing the prolonged delay as a violation of constitutional rights.
On Wednesday, June 4, the MPs marched to the Police Headquarters in Accra to present a formal petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), urging urgent intervention to protect Electoral Commission (EC) officials and facilitate the declaration of results.
Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, speaking to journalists after the submission, emphasized that the continued absence of a Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North undermines the right to political representation as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.
“We are not here just as political actors; we are here as defenders of democracy. The people of Ablekuma North deserve to have their parliamentary representative sworn in like every other Ghanaian constituency,” he stated.
The Minority contends that the Electoral Commission must be supported, including with security if necessary, to finalise and announce the results without further delay.
The protest comes amid growing public concern about the transparency and finality of the 2024 parliamentary election outcomes in certain constituencies.
