First Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, is pressing the Minister for Sports and Recreation to appear before Parliament to account for Ghana’s readiness for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which begins on Thursday.
Raising the concern on the floor of the House, the Tolon MP said lawmakers and the public need clear information on how the country is preparing for the tournament, especially in areas affecting supporters such as ticket access, travel arrangements, and overall logistics.
He stressed that with the global competition only days away, it was important for Parliament to be briefed on government’s plans and the role of relevant sporting bodies in coordinating Ghana’s participation.
Iddrisu noted that unanswered questions remain among football fans regarding ticket prices and how supporters will be facilitated to attend matches, adding that greater transparency would help build public confidence.
He further called for the Sports Ministry to disclose any state financial commitments linked to the World Cup and explain measures being taken to ensure accountability and value for money in all related expenditures.
