Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Ghana has signaled a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with both nations placing emphasis on expanding trade, technology, education, and cultural cooperation.
During his historic address to Ghana’s Parliament, Prime Minister Modi spoke warmly of Ghana’s progress and democratic credentials, describing the West African nation as a symbol of hope and leadership in Africa.
His remarks came as part of broader diplomatic engagements aimed at deepening collaboration between the two nations.
“When we look at Ghana, we see a nation that shines with courage, rises above history, and turns every challenge into creativity and grace,” Modi stated to applause from Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.
“Your commitment to democratic ideals and inclusive progress truly makes Ghana a beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent.”
The Indian leader’s comments, while highlighting Ghana’s governance model, were also a backdrop to more practical discussions around partnerships in areas such as digital technology, vocational training, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
India is expected to roll out new cooperation frameworks and funding mechanisms to support joint projects in Ghana.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, by visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra.
He laid a wreath on the tombs of Dr. Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia, underscoring India’s historical ties with Ghana that date back to the Non-Aligned Movement era.
Modi’s visit, seen as part of India’s broader Africa outreach strategy, is expected to lead to new bilateral agreements that will boost economic growth and cultural diplomacy between the two countries.
