The Ceremonial Garden of the Jubilee House became a place of quiet reflection on Tuesday, August 12, as former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings honoured the memory of eight public servants who perished in last week’s military helicopter crash.
Accompanied by her son, Mr Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings, and her Special Aide, Mildred Annan Bentil, Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings laid a wreath in solemn tribute to the lives lost in the August 6 tragedy at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
In a statement issued by the Office of former President Jerry John Rawlings, she described the loss as a collective wound felt not only by Ghana but also by the international community. “Their loss is a sad one for the entire country and indeed the international community, many of whom may have interfaced with some of the departed,” she noted.
Her tribute also extended to the Ghana Armed Forces, acknowledging the service and sacrifice of the officers who died “on duty for God and country.”
The ceremony was both a personal gesture and a public reminder of the nation’s gratitude to those who serve in the line of duty, highlighting the enduring need to remember their sacrifices beyond moments of crisis.
