Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Minister of Education and running mate to NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in public service following his invitation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to clarify issues from his time in office.
Describing the NIB summons as a routine and essential aspect of leadership, Dr. Opoku Prempeh stated that public officials must be prepared to explain their decisions and actions. He called on political officeholders to embrace accountability as a fundamental duty rather than a burden or threat.
Highlighting that such invitations are common practice and should not be politicized, he reassured that being called to respond does not imply guilt but reflects the responsibility that comes with public office. “Serving in government is a temporary responsibility, not a permanent privilege,” he noted.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh also encouraged his peers in public service to uphold integrity and be ready to account for their stewardship at any time, stressing that such transparency strengthens public trust in governance and promotes good leadership.
