The National Investment Bank PLC (NIB) has emerged revitalized and better equipped to fuel Ghana’s ambitious industrial and economic growth plans, following a significant recapitalization that has restored its financial strength and operational focus.
Dr. Doli-Wura Awushi Abdul-Malik Seidu Zakaria, Managing Director of NIB, described the recent GH₵1.92 billion capital injection as a “game changer” that positions the bank as a critical partner in advancing Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda, supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and driving national development across key sectors such as manufacturing, agribusiness, energy, healthcare, and technology.
At the official launch of NIB’s new branch located within the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) offices in Adenta, Dr. Zakaria underscored the symbolic and strategic importance of the move. By situating banking services within a key public institution, NIB aims to bring convenience and financial inclusion to more Ghanaians, especially those in underserved communities.
“This is not just a new branch; it represents NIB’s renewed commitment to accessible, customer-focused banking that supports Ghana’s economic transformation,” he stated.
Dr. Zakaria also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, whose leadership was pivotal in driving the recapitalization effort, enabling NIB to shed its previous financial constraints and refocus on impactful lending and investment.
Once burdened by over GHS 2.4 billion in nonperforming loans and struggling with legacy debts and undercapitalization, NIB’s turnaround marks a hopeful trajectory for the institution’s future. The bank’s transformation from a development finance institution into a commercially viable entity underscores its dual mandate of profitability and national development.
Part of NIB’s renewed vision includes the planned relocation of its head office to Cedi House by the end of July—a cost-saving measure designed to funnel resources into improving customer service, staff development, and sustainable growth.
“Our strategy is clear: we will be a bank that drives job creation, supports business growth, and champions financial inclusion,” Dr. Zakaria emphasized.
On the customer service front, Mrs. Owusu-Brefo, Head of Customer Service Experience, reiterated the bank’s dedication to professionalism and customer satisfaction. She called on staff to maintain discipline and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and respect in all customer interactions.
As NIB embraces this new chapter, its evolution reflects broader economic reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence and unlocking the potential of Ghana’s key economic sectors. With its strengthened capital base and innovative approaches, NIB is poised to be a powerhouse in Ghana’s journey toward sustained economic resilience and growth.
