The newly appointed Governing Board of the Bank of Ghana has been sworn into office by Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who has urged them to play a pivotal role in steering the nation’s economic recovery.
At a swearing-in ceremony at the Bank of Ghana’s Bank Square in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the critical role of the Central Bank in stabilizing Ghana’s economy, stating that its performance would significantly impact the overall success of the government.
She praised the diverse expertise of the newly constituted Board, which includes professionals from both the public and private sectors. Their backgrounds, she noted, would be essential in bringing innovative and strategic leadership to address the economic challenges confronting the country.
“The country’s economic future is tied to the performance of the Central Bank,” she remarked, calling on the Board to ensure that monetary policies align with global best practices and the government’s commitment to macroeconomic stability and public trust.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted the government’s commitment to gender parity, commending the Board’s composition, which boasts over 40% female representation. She described this as a step towards ensuring inclusive governance and diverse leadership perspectives in Ghana’s financial sector.
The Vice President further encouraged the Board to prioritize policies that support small-scale traders, women, and youth, ensuring that economic decisions benefit all Ghanaians, particularly marginalized communities.
In her closing remarks, she expressed confidence that with effective leadership, sound governance, and government backing, the Board would help drive Ghana’s financial recovery and economic transformation.
With this new leadership team in place, the Bank of Ghana is now expected to implement bold financial policies, rebuild public trust, and reinforce its role as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
