Barely settling into his new role, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Ransford Abbey, is already setting a new tone for leadership — one anchored in transparency, inclusivity, and strategic reform.
On Monday, Dr. Abbey hosted his maiden interactive session with staff, using the platform to share his vision for a stronger and more sustainable cocoa sector. The engagement, held at Cocoa House in Accra and streamed virtually to regional staff, marked a symbolic and practical shift toward open communication across all levels of the organization.
Describing the cocoa sector as being at a crossroads, Dr. Abbey was frank about the challenges ahead but equally optimistic. He unveiled what he called a “bold and innovative” recovery plan that aims to overhaul the sector’s current trajectory and chart a path toward long-term profitability.
“This durbar is not a one-off event,” he assured. “It’s the start of consistent, transparent conversations with our people — the ones who keep the engine of this industry running.”
Dr. Abbey’s approach signals a leadership model rooted in collaboration and accountability — a move widely welcomed by staff as Ghana’s cocoa sector faces both global and domestic pressures.
His initiative forms part of a broader effort to reenergize COCOBOD, placing emphasis on stakeholder engagement, operational efficiency, and modernisation in one of the country’s most vital economic pillars.
