A seven-member implementation committee has been inaugurated to oversee the construction and operationalisation of the St Raphael Medical Centre at Pusgu-Namongo in the Talensi District, signaling a major advancement in healthcare delivery for Northern Ghana.
This ambitious project, funded by the Hungarian Government through Hungary Helps and coordinated by the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organisation (NABOCADO), aims to provide specialised medical services to communities within the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, spanning the Upper East and North East Regions.
The committee is led by Dr. Wilfred Akapanga as Chairperson, supported by experts including Dr. Joseph Ayembilla, Consultant; Reverend Father Joseph Tabase, Diocesan Financial Administrator; and Mr. Ayedzi Delanyon Khiki, Regional Biomedical Engineer with the Ghana Health Service. The team also features technical and administrative members to ensure a holistic approach to project delivery.
Bishop Alfred Agyenta of the Diocese expressed deep gratitude to the Hungarian Government and NABOCADO for their roles in bringing the medical centre vision closer to reality. He emphasized that the project is more than infrastructure — it embodies the healing mission of the Church and requires sustainable financial management.
Highlighting teamwork as critical to attracting future support, the Bishop urged the committee to collaborate closely to meet project timelines and quality standards. Daniel Damka, Chairperson of the Diocesan Finance Council and Business Board, traced the project’s inception back to 2019, underscoring the pressing need for enhanced healthcare in the region.
Dr. Akapanga, on behalf of the committee, accepted the responsibility with a firm commitment to deliver the centre successfully, calling on the wider Church and local communities for continued support.
Upon completion, the St Raphael Medical Centre—located just five kilometres from Bolgatanga—will offer comprehensive health services including outpatient care, diagnostics such as CT scans and MRI, maternal and child health, paediatrics, and geriatric care, heralding a new era of advanced medical care in the region.
The inauguration of the committee marks a significant milestone in the Diocese’s efforts to improve healthcare access and reinforce its mission of service, compassion, and community upliftment.
