The newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC), Mavis Adjei-Kwaa, has hit the ground running with a firm commitment to strengthen Ghana’s local industries and push for reforms that will enhance their competitiveness on both domestic and international markets.
Speaking to the press after her first official meeting with GITC staff, Adjei-Kwaa emphasized her intention to collaborate with the Trade and Agribusiness Ministry to advocate for a review of taxes that hinder the growth of Ghanaian enterprises.
“We want to empower local industries to thrive. That means ensuring fair competition, reviewing barriers such as taxes, and giving our businesses the tools to compete effectively with international players,” she said.
Adjei-Kwaa’s vision aligns with the Commission’s broader mission of promoting fair trade and protecting Ghanaian businesses from unfair international trade practices. Her arrival is seen as a strategic boost to the Commission’s capacity to implement impactful policies, especially as Ghana deepens its participation in global and regional trade frameworks.
During the brief welcoming ceremony, Bernad Manu Afreh, GITC’s Head of Research and Planning, pledged the Commission’s full backing of Adjei-Kwaa’s agenda. “We look forward to supporting her in championing government initiatives to modernize and fortify Ghanaian industries,” he said.
Adjei-Kwaa also toured key departments within the GITC, signaling her readiness to integrate with the team and advance initiatives that will ensure equity, sustainability, and growth in the country’s trade environment.
Her appointment is seen as a strong signal from government that industrial competitiveness and trade fairness will be front-burner priorities moving forward.
