Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s engagement across northern Ghana is reshaping the dynamics of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race, as influential figures and party structures openly align behind his bid, signalling a growing consolidation of support.
A major boost to his campaign came with the endorsement of the family of S.D. Dombo, a revered statesman whose legacy is deeply rooted in the NPP’s philosophy of inclusion, grassroots participation and national unity. The backing, described by party insiders as highly symbolic, has resonated strongly across the northern regions and injected new energy into the leadership debate within the party.
A statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday said Dr. Acheampong’s tour of the Upper West, Upper East and North East regions was characterised by packed meetings, warm receptions and firm declarations of support from constituency executives, elders, youth leaders and opinion leaders.
According to the statement, a recurring message from the party base was the call for discipline, fairness and credible leadership capable of restoring confidence and leading the NPP back to electoral victory. Local party chairmen were particularly vocal in their support.
Wa East Chairman, Sumaila Kankuronye, was quoted as saying he had long observed Dr. Acheampong’s contributions to the party and was convinced of his ability to lead the NPP to power. In a similar vein, Wa West Chairman Abdulai Seidu described Dr. Acheampong as an experienced party stalwart and urged delegates to rally behind him as the unifying figure needed for victory.
The statement noted that delegates were increasingly prioritising electability, organisational strength and credibility—attributes it said had been clearly demonstrated by Dr. Acheampong’s structured and data-driven campaign approach.
With momentum building in the north and endorsements cutting across regional and generational lines, the statement concluded that Dr. Acheampong’s campaign was transitioning from active contestation to strategic consolidation within the NPP.
