The Akan Constituency of the Oti Region is gearing up for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, with 645 delegates expected to cast their votes.
According to Mr. Abdul Merigah Sataru, Akan Constituency Secretary of the NPP, the delegates include two former parliamentary candidates, two former District Chief Executives, 18 former constituency executives, and 10 members of the Council of Elders and patrons. The remaining delegates are made up of 561 polling station executives, 36 electoral area coordinators, and 16 constituency executives.
Voting will take place at the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC) Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall. Mr. Sataru urged all delegates to approach the primaries peacefully, emphasizing that the contest is a family affair and should reflect unity within the party.
Several high-profile candidates are vying for the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer position, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana; Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Agriculture and MP for Abetifi; Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central; Ing.
