… Calls for Radical Reconciliation and Unity Ahead of 2028 Elections
The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended its warmest congratulations to the party’s newly elected National Officers, while issuing a passionate charge to the new administration to prioritize internal reconciliation and structural rebuilding following the conclusion of their national executive elections.
In a formal letter dated October 5, 2026, signed by the Vice Chairman of the National Council of Elders, Alhaji Sulemana Yirimea, the Council officially recognized Mr. John Boadu following his election as National Chairman, alongside the entire slate of newly elected national officers.
The letter highlights a critical turning point for the political organization as it seeks to fortify its internal apparatus ahead of future national electoral challenges. Addressing the newly elected executive body, Alhaji Yirimea emphasized that the internal democratic contests have drawn to a close, and the pivotal task of consolidating party unity must commence immediately.
“Your election comes at an important time in the history of our Party. The contest is now over, and the work of rebuilding and strengthening our Party must begin in earnest,” the statement noted.
A Call for Inclusivity and Reconciliation
A central theme of the message from the Council of Elders is the crucial need for inclusive governance and broad engagement across all factions within the party. The Council explicitly urged Chairman John Boadu and his executive team to reach out to defeated aspirants and ensure that no member is marginalized following the internal polls.
“As the new leadership assumes office, I urge you and your colleagues to reach out to all the other candidates who contested the various positions. They should not be seen as opponents or be left on the sidelines,” Alhaji Yirimea wrote. He further stressed that in the supreme interest of the party, the leadership must actively harness the collective experience, knowledge, and strategic ideas of all members, regardless of which candidate they supported during the internal contests.
Unifying Behind the Flagbearer for 2028
Looking forward to the broader national political landscape, the Council underscored that organizational discipline and internal harmony are non-negotiable prerequisites for political success. The message clearly framed the primary objective of the new executive committee: building a cohesive and formidable party structure capable of securing electoral victory in the upcoming national contest.
“The journey to rescue our nation has begun. We need a united, disciplined and well-organised Party to rally behind our formidable flagbearer, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and work together towards victory in the 2028 General Elections,” the letter declared.
Reaffirming its advisory role, the National Council of Elders assured the executive leadership that its doors will remain continuously open to provide guidance, counsel, and strategic direction. Alhaji Yirimea reminded the officers of their shared obligation to protect the traditions of the party, enhance its organizational appeal to the Ghanaian electorate, and firmly position it as the nation’s premier political party of choice.
