The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has thrown its support behind former party chairman aspirant Paul Afoko, praising his organisational skills and calling for renewed unity as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.
At a high-level consultation in Kumasi, the elders described Afoko as a key figure in past party restructuring efforts, noting that his leadership style previously contributed to improved coordination and electoral performance.
The Council expressed concern over what it described as declining party influence in the northern regions and urged Afoko to play a central role in rebuilding support ahead of the next general election.
They also encouraged closer collaboration between him and the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, to strengthen outreach and consolidate support bases.
“We have seen your capabilities, and we believe your experience can help reposition the party,” the elders noted, stressing the need for unity and strategic mobilisation.
In response, Afoko expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as a call to renewed service rather than a personal elevation.
He acknowledged internal challenges within the party following the 2024 elections and urged members to focus on rebuilding rather than assigning blame.
According to him, the party’s future success will depend on collective effort, discipline, and a shared commitment to restoring public confidence.
Afoko further emphasised that all stakeholders within the party must contribute ideas and work together to reposition the NPP for a stronger showing in 2028.
