The race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 flagbearership is gathering momentum as Kwabena Agyepong confirmed he will officially submit his nomination forms on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
In a statement, Agyepong called on party supporters and well-wishers to join him in what he described as a step toward “principled leadership and a NEW DAWN for Ghana,” emphasizing service, selflessness, and sacrifice.
His filing sets the stage for a tightly contested week, with other leading aspirants also preparing to formalize their bids. Kennedy Agyapong, former legislator, is slated to submit his forms the following day, Wednesday, August 27, at 1 pm, accompanied by his wife and campaign team.
Meanwhile, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will round out the nominations on Thursday, August 28, at 8 am, joined by his wife, senior campaign members, and several parliamentary supporters.
The party opened nominations on July 29, 2025, with the filing deadline set for Thursday, August 28, 2025. Analysts say the sequence of filings this week will set the tone for a high-stakes contest as aspirants vie to rally delegates and grassroots supporters ahead of the party’s primaries.
With the flagbearer race intensifying, all eyes will be on party headquarters this week as leading contenders take formal steps toward securing the NPP nomination.
