The New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially launched the theme for its 2025 Annual National Delegates Conference today at a press conference addressed by Richard Ahiagba, Director of Communications.
The conference, scheduled for July 19–20 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, will center on the theme: “Rebuilding Together With Our Values” Mr Ahiagba emphasized the theme’s significance, calling it “poignant” and essential to guide the party’s “rebuilding” efforts. He stressed the NPP’s commitment to reconnecting with its foundational principles, including the rule of law, individual liberty, private enterprise, limited government, and Ghanaian cultural traditions.
The party’s Director of Communications outlined the critical agenda for the upcoming Annual National Delegate Conference, emphasizing its mandate to enact sweeping constitutional reforms aimed at rebuilding the party’s strength and resilience.
Speaking further, Mr Ahiagba stressed the supreme authority of the Annual National Delegate Conference under Article 10 of the party’s Constitution. This body, the party’s highest decision-making organ, is tasked with deliberating on key reports and financial statements.
According to him, the conference’s primary focus, however, will be a significant constitutional amendment exercise. This initiative combines several critical elements:
1. Unresolved 2019 Amendments: Proposed changes from the 2019 conference that were never implemented, instead being referred to the National Council for refinement.
2. Election Review Proposals: Recommendations stemming from the Michael Quay Committee report, which analyzed the party’s performance in the 2024 elections.
3. New Member Submissions: Additional amendments proposed directly by party members.
Mr Ahiagba described this combined “bundle of amendments” as designed to “reshape” and “re-engineer the path of our party.” The motivation stems directly from the lessons of the 2024 election and the need to address the long-pending 2019 reforms.
“The amendments, if conference accepts, are designed to re-engineer the path of our party towards rebuilding for a stronger and a more resilient party in the future,” Mr Ahiagba stated, underscoring the conference’s historic importance.
The party leadership highlighted the unprecedented step of formally unveiling the conference theme – a “rallying point” – to underscore the event’s significance. The goal is for delegates to leave united, moving towards a “more rewarding” and “more encouraging future” for the party.
This conference represents a pivotal moment for the party, aiming to modernize its foundational rules in response to recent electoral challenges and past procedural delays.
Mr Ahiagba directly criticized the governing NDC, accusing it of abandoning pro-growth initiatives like the “One District, One Factory” policy and being inconsistent on cultural issues like LGBTQ rights. He stated the theme responds to feedback from Ghanaians who felt the NPP had strayed from its core identity.
Concluding, Ahiagba called for unity within the party, invoking Henry Ford’s adage: “If everybody moves forward together, success takes care of itself.” The party aims to emerge from the conference as a “united force” dedicated to Ghana’s development.
