The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to strengthen ballot security ahead of the 2028 general elections, with its First Vice Chairman, Chairman Bamba, assuring members that the party will take steps to protect ballot boxes across the country.
Chairman Bamba said incidents recorded during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency elections, including the reported snatching of ballot boxes, had heightened concerns about electoral security ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking at a birthday celebration for the NPP’s National Chairman, he alleged that the incidents offered an indication of what the opposition party might attempt during the 2028 elections, insisting that the NPP would not allow such situations to occur without resistance.
“I want to assure you that as executives, we are certain that we will protect all ballot boxes. We saw what happened during the NDC constituency elections and we know certainly that this is what they intend to do during the 2028 elections, but we won’t make it happen,” he said.
His remarks come as the NPP prepares to rebuild its political support following its electoral setback, with party executives seeking to reconnect with members and supporters who have become disillusioned or left the party.
Chairman Bamba urged members to take an active role in the reconciliation effort by reaching out to former supporters who helped the party win power under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but have since withdrawn their support.
“Let’s ensure that we speak to those who worked with us to bring Nana Addo to government but have left the party for one reason or the other,” he said.
He maintained that the party’s leadership was working towards securing victory in 2028 but stressed that success would depend on the collective commitment of its membership.
“We, as executives, are working to ensure victory in the 2028 elections. However, we will need every member on board to achieve this,” he added.
The remarks highlight two priorities for the NPP as it looks towards the next general elections: strengthening safeguards around the electoral process and rebuilding internal unity to broaden its support base.
Chairman Bamba’s allegations about the NDC’s intentions for 2028 were not accompanied by evidence in the account of his remarks.
