A New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah, has accused the Mahama administration of neglecting teachers’ welfare, citing unresolved promotion concerns, allowances and disruptions caused by industrial action in the education sector.
Speaking on Asaase Radio’s The Forum programme on Saturday, he questioned why concerns affecting about 51,000 teachers had not been resolved, claiming that some educators stood to receive increases of only GH¢100 following promotion.
Ofosu Ntiamoah also questioned the relationship between President John Dramani Mahama and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, suggesting that a public disagreement over government policy pointed to differences between the two. He, however, provided no evidence that the president was deliberately undermining his minister.
He further criticised the government’s spending priorities, questioning why funds he said were available for an expressway project had not been matched by urgent action to address the teachers’ concerns.
The NPP communicator also expressed concern over the disruption to teaching and learning following the reopening of senior high schools, arguing that students were in school without benefiting fully from academic activities.
