The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has issued a firm ultimatum to the government, demanding the full implementation of their agreed conditions of service by the end of July 2025.
The association’s warning follows what it describes as an unproductive postponement of a critical meeting with Parliament’s Select Committee on Health, initially scheduled for June 26, 2025. In a letter dated June 25, the committee rescheduled the session to July 10, citing the absence of key stakeholders who were reportedly out of the country.
At a press conference held the following day, the leadership of GRNMA expressed disappointment over the delay, stating that it risks eroding the trust built during previous negotiations that led to the suspension of their nationwide strike.
“The strike was suspended in good faith, and we expect a matching show of commitment. Rescheduling the meeting at the last minute is not only unfortunate—it risks further delaying implementation of what has already been agreed upon,” the Association said.
The GRNMA emphasized that four key items in their conditions of service must be implemented without further delay, warning that the July deadline is final and non-negotiable. Leadership added that any additional postponements would compel the Association to “advise themselves,” hinting at the possibility of renewed industrial action.
Despite their disappointment, the Association said it would still give the committee the benefit of the doubt and hoped engagements with the Ministries of Health and Finance would yield timely results.
