More than 20 pupils from Prampram D/A Basic ‘B’ and Methodist Freeman Basic School in the Greater Accra region have been hospitalized after collapsing during class hours on Monday, April 14.
The affected children were seen running in distress before suddenly collapsing, prompting swift action from school authorities and medical teams.
The pupils have been admitted to the Prampram Polyclinic, where medical personnel are closely monitoring their condition. Preliminary investigations suggest that the children may have consumed asana, a local corn drink sold by a nearby vendor. The vendor, who is also suspected to have consumed the drink, has been hospitalized as well.
The Ningo-Prampram District Health Directorate has launched an investigation into the incident and is working with parents and school authorities to identify the cause and ensure the safety of the remaining pupils. Authorities are calling for increased vigilance regarding food safety standards within the community.
