Parliament’s Appointments Committee will today, July 25, 2025, begin vetting the final group of deputy ministerial nominees in what marks the closing phase of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial appointments for his first year in office.
Among the four nominees set to appear before the Committee are prominent Members of Parliament, signalling President Mahama’s continued strategy of drawing from legislative experience to strengthen his executive team.
James Gyakye Quayson, the Assin North MP, has been nominated for the role of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. His appointment is seen as significant, given his resilience through a politically turbulent period and recent re-election.
Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey will also face the Committee as she seeks to assume the position of Deputy Minister for Transport. Her nomination reflects growing female representation in key infrastructural and governance portfolios.
Representing the Upper West Region, Mohammed Adam Sukparu, MP for Sissala West, is expected to bring regional diversity and parliamentary insight to the role of Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation.
Meanwhile, Grace Ayensu-Danquah, the MP for Essikado-Ketan and a respected medical practitioner, has been tapped to serve as Deputy Minister for Health—a nomination welcomed by many health sector stakeholders.
These appointments, submitted to Parliament on July 9 under Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution, round off President Mahama’s executive team. Today’s vetting session is expected to spark bipartisan scrutiny as the nation looks ahead to the full operationalisation of the new administration’s policy agenda.
