Residents of Patang Village in the Ga East Municipality have threatened to boycott the 2028 general election and stage a demonstration if authorities fail to address the worsening road conditions in the community.
The residents say years of neglect have left key roads in a deplorable state, making movement difficult and disrupting economic and social activities, particularly during the rainy season.
According to them, the situation has been aggravated by the alleged encroachment of the Dakobi River by private developers, which they claim has altered the river’s natural flow and caused severe erosion along sections of the road network.
The residents accused both the Ga East Municipal Assembly and the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly of failing to protect the waterway and allowing developments that have contributed to the deterioration of critical infrastructure.
Expressing frustration over what they describe as the authorities’ lack of action, some community members warned that they would not participate in future elections unless urgent steps are taken to rehabilitate the roads and resolve the environmental challenges affecting the area.
They have therefore called on government agencies, local authorities, and environmental regulators to intervene immediately to restore the damaged roads, prevent further encroachment on the river, and improve access to the community.
The residents maintain that addressing the road crisis is essential to safeguarding livelihoods and ensuring the continued development of Patang Village.
