In a move aimed at strengthening Ghana’s security apparatus, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka as the Acting National Security Minister.
The appointment, announced by Speaker Alban Bagbin in Parliament on Friday, March 7, 2025, was made under Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030). This dual role positions Muntaka at the helm of both the Interior and National Security Ministries, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a streamlined and efficient security framework.
The decision comes as the Mahama administration intensifies efforts to tackle evolving security threats and enhance public safety. By merging oversight of internal and national security operations, the government seeks to foster better coordination among security agencies.
This appointment follows President Mahama’s broader governance restructuring, which saw the dissolution of several ministries, including the Ministry for National Security, the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, as part of his drive for a leaner government.
