In a move aimed at strengthening economic decision-making, the government has constituted a 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy, tasking it with offering high-level, non-partisan advice on Ghana’s economic management and long-term development strategy.
The advisory body brings together a blend of experienced economists, academics, former public officials, and private sector leaders, reflecting an effort to combine policy experience with market insight and research-based analysis. Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang serves on the group, alongside prominent figures such as economist and statesman Kwame Pianim and industrialist Sir Sam Jonah.
Also appointed are former Bank of Ghana governors Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah, Togbe Afede XIV, Ghana Stock Exchange CEO Abena Amoah, former finance and trade deputy minister Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, and private sector leader Ishmael Yamson. The group further includes academics Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, as well as former World Bank infrastructure specialist and agribusiness investor Ato Brown.
The establishment of the group signals the President’s intention to rely on diverse expertise to confront current economic pressures while laying the groundwork for sustainable growth. The advisory team is expected to provide guidance on key areas such as macroeconomic stability, fiscal discipline, debt management, and alignment between fiscal and monetary policy.
Beyond stabilization, the group will advise on longer-term priorities including industrialisation, competitiveness, export-led growth, private sector development, and job creation. It will also support the design of reforms aimed at boosting productivity across the economy.
In addition, the advisory group will periodically assess economic performance, recommend policy adjustments, and contribute technical input to Ghana’s engagements with international financial institutions, development partners, and investors.
Reporting directly to the President, the group will submit strategic briefs and memoranda as required, positioning it as a central advisory platform for shaping Ghana’s economic policy direction.
