National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfuah, has called on delegates to scrutinise the records of former government appointees seeking positions in the party’s national leadership.
She argued that delegates should not automatically support former appointees of the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing some of them of failing to adequately engage with party members while in government.
“I am urging delegates of the NPP to desist from voting for anyone who served as an appointee under the previous government,” she said.
According to Madam Gyamfuah, delegates should be cautious about candidates seeking national positions after serving in government, arguing that their conduct while in office should be considered in determining whether they are suitable for party leadership.
She further disclosed that she had urged former Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful to reconsider her decision to contest the General Secretary position.
Madam Gyamfuah said she had expressed concerns to Ms Owusu-Ekuful about her standing within sections of the party and advised her against entering the race.
Her comments come as the NPP prepares for its internal elections to elect new national executives.
