A disturbing case of gun violence has rocked the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, after a student reportedly brought a firearm to campus and accidentally shot two of his peers.
The incident, which occurred during break time on Friday, April 4, 2025, has left the school community in shock.
Sources within the school say Bernard Amoabeng, a form two student, introduced the weapon during a heated conversation among students about whether the gun was real or functional.
In a reckless attempt to prove its functionality, Amoabeng allegedly discharged the weapon, striking two fellow students in the process.
One of the victims, identified as Penamang, suffered a critical head injury with a bullet wound to her forehead.
She was rushed to Kwadaso Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the severity of her condition.
The second victim’s injuries, while serious, have not yet been fully disclosed.
The Suame Police have since arrested Amoabeng and launched a comprehensive investigation into how he obtained the firearm and what led to the shooting.
Authorities are also working closely with the school’s administration to assess security protocols and prevent future occurrences.
This tragic event has raised urgent concerns about student safety and the growing need for security checks and counseling services within educational institutions.
