Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has donated GH¢180,000 to support emergency services, education and student development initiatives in the Upper West Region.
According to a statement issued by Mr David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Media Relations at the Parliamentary Service, the Speaker mobilised GH¢100,000 toward the completion of a fence wall project for the Ghana National Fire Service.
He also donated items worth more than GH¢70,000 to the home economics department and administration of Sombo Senior High School to enhance teaching and learning.
In addition, the Speaker presented GH¢10,000 to the Nadowli Kaleo Students Union to support student welfare and youth development activities.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Bagbin described the gesture as an opportunity to contribute to causes that are close to his heart, particularly safety, education and youth empowerment.
He stressed the need for greater investment in emergency response services, warning against neglecting institutions such as the Ghana National Fire Service, which play a critical role in protecting lives and property.
The Speaker also reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting policies that would help retool and strengthen the operational capacity of the Fire Service.
He commended regional fire officers for taking the initiative to mobilise support for the fence project, expressing confidence that the completed wall would improve security at the headquarters.
Mr Bagbin further called on corporate organisations, philanthropists and individuals to invest in young people and support institutions that contribute to national development.
