The State Transport Company (STC) has reassured the public that all passengers aboard its bus involved in the fatal Birimso Bridge crash survived, dismissing viral claims suggesting that only a handful of passengers escaped the accident.
The company issued the clarification after a video circulated on social media in which a man claiming to be an STC driver alleged that only 10 passengers survived the crash on the N6 Highway near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region.
STC described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that while some passengers sustained minor injuries, none of the passengers on its bus died.
The accident, which involved an STC bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento, resulted in three fatalities, but the company said none of those who died were passengers on the STC bus.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, August 4, Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration, Nuru Hamidan, said the company had accounted for all passengers who were travelling on the bus.
“I am happy to say that none of the STC passengers died. All of them were safe, although some sustained bruises and were taken to the hospital,” he said.
Mr Hamidan explained that the company dispatched two replacement buses to transport passengers who wished to continue their journey to Kumasi after receiving medical treatment.
He said 31 passengers boarded the replacement buses, and the company had successfully accounted for all of them.
The STC official said the company remains committed to ensuring the safety, reliability and comfort of its passengers and emphasised that the professionalism and experience of its drivers remain central to its operational standards.
He urged the public to rely on verified information and disregard unconfirmed reports circulating on social media about the accident.
STC said it would continue to uphold the highest safety standards while cooperating with the relevant authorities as investigations into the multi-vehicle crash continue.
