The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nkwanta South is set to intensify its grassroots engagement in rural communities following the presentation of 30 motorbikes to constituency executives.
The motorbikes, procured through the lobbying efforts of the Nkwanta South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Awal Antwi, are expected to improve the party’s mobility and outreach, particularly in communities that are difficult to access.
The presentation was made through the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Geoffrey Kini.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Antwi said the motorbikes were not merely a donation but strategic logistics intended to strengthen the party’s operations at the grassroots.
He said improved mobility would enable party executives to engage residents more effectively, particularly in rural areas, and provide information on development projects being implemented by the NDC government.
According to the MCE, inadequate logistics, especially motorbikes, had historically limited the ability of branch-level executives to maintain regular contact with communities across the constituency.
Drawing on his previous experience as the NDC constituency communication officer and election director, Mr Antwi said he was familiar with the logistical challenges confronting party structures at the grassroots.
He said the initiative was therefore part of his efforts to give back to the party while helping to improve its operational capacity across Nkwanta South.
Mr Antwi urged the party executives who would benefit from the motorbikes to use them effectively to strengthen community engagement and remain committed to the party’s objectives.
He also appealed to party members to maintain unity and work diligently in the interest of the constituency.
Receiving the motorbikes on behalf of the NDC constituency executives, Mr Geoffrey Kini commended the MCE for the initiative and his efforts to mobilise the logistics.
The MP described the support as timely, saying improved mobility was critical to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures and ensuring that executives could effectively reach communities across the constituency.
He also praised the MCE’s performance, claiming that development in Nkwanta South had become more visible under the current administration.
The Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and other dignitaries at the event also applauded the initiative.
They encouraged other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to adopt similar approaches by lobbying for logistics, infrastructure and other resources needed to support development and community engagement.
The presentation is expected to give the NDC constituency structure greater mobility as it seeks to deepen its presence and engagement in communities across Nkwanta South.
