Ghana has once again earned regional recognition in the fight for equality as Ms Fuseini Fadila, Executive Director of the Tamale-based Tiyumba Hope Foundation, was honoured with a Transformative Leadership Award at a regional conference in Lomé, Togo.
The award, presented during the Faith to Action Network’s Regional Conference on Leadership and Gender Justice, celebrated Ms Fuseini’s tireless work in advancing gender justice and inclusive development in northern Ghana, where many women and vulnerable groups face entrenched barriers to opportunity.
Delegates from 15 West and Central African countries witnessed the event, which highlighted the critical role of grassroots leaders in driving regional change.
“This recognition is not just for me but for every woman and girl in our communities striving for equal rights and opportunities,” Ms Fuseini said after receiving the honour. “It affirms that grassroots voices can shape regional transformation.”
Her NGO, Tiyumba Hope Foundation, has become a force for social change, championing girls’ education, women’s participation in leadership, and community resilience initiatives. The organisation’s work has placed northern Ghana on the regional map for innovative, people-centred approaches to development.
The Faith to Action Network said the recognition of Ms Fuseini underscores the importance of local leadership in dismantling gender-based inequalities across the sub-region.
By carrying Ghana’s flag high in Togo, Ms Fuseini’s award not only honours her personal achievements but also amplifies the role of Ghanaian civil society in shaping inclusive development agendas across West and Central Africa.
