The New Patriotic Party’s United States Branch (NPP-USA) will elect a new national executive leadership later this month as the party’s diaspora wing intensifies efforts to reorganise ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general elections.
Delegates from NPP chapters across the United States are expected to gather in Westborough, Massachusetts, from July 24 to 26 for the branch’s national conference, where a new executive team will be chosen to lead the organisation over the next electoral cycle.
The conference, themed “Rooted in the Values of Our Founders, Rising to Secure Ghana’s Future,” is expected to focus on strengthening party structures, enhancing grassroots mobilisation and deepening collaboration between the diaspora branch and the party’s leadership in Ghana.
One of the major highlights of the conference will be the contest for the position of Branch Chairperson. Washington Metro Chapter Chairperson, Ing. Janis Asare-Bediako, will challenge the current First Vice Chairman of NPP-USA, James Owusu, in what is anticipated to be a keenly contested election.
In addition to the chairmanship race, delegates will elect a full complement of national executives responsible for driving party organisation, promoting unity among chapters and coordinating the branch’s contribution to the NPP’s campaign strategy for the 2028 elections.
The conference will be hosted by the Massachusetts Chapter under the leadership of Louis Amoako Mensah, with the current NPP-USA Branch Chairperson, Obaa Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, overseeing the event.
Several senior figures of the party are expected to address delegates, including Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Chief of Staff at the Office of the NPP Flagbearer, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
The conference will also feature a keynote address by the NPP’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is expected to outline the party’s vision for the next general elections and rally members behind efforts to return the NPP to power.
Delegates are also expected to adopt resolutions aimed at strengthening the role of NPP-USA in fundraising, policy engagement, diaspora mobilisation and supporting the party’s national campaign ahead of the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
