Jurors at the Accra High Court have suspended their duties starting June 2, protesting the non-payment of their allowances for the past eight months.
Despite multiple appeals and formal notifications to the Acting Chief Justice and Judiciary Service, the jurors say they have yet to receive any clear timeline for settling the overdue payments.
Joshua Alorgbey, spokesperson for the jurors, expressed frustration over what they perceive as neglect of their welfare and financial security.
He emphasized that without immediate compensation, the jurors are unable to continue participating in court proceedings.
“The non-payment has stretched since October 2024, and all attempts to resolve the issue have been met with postponements,” Alorgbey told Citi News. “With the legal year nearing its end, the uncertainty around our arrears leaves us no choice but to withdraw our services.”
The jurors’ withdrawal raises concerns about potential delays in the judicial process, underscoring the urgent need for authorities to address their claims promptly.
