AfDB Forecasts Stronger Growth for Ghana Economy Through 2027

The African Development Bank (African Development Bank) has projected that Ghana’s economy will maintain strong growth momentum over the next two years, with expansion expected to reach 5 percent in 2026 and rise further to 5.4 percent in 2027.

The forecast, contained in the Bank’s 2026 African Economic Outlook Report, places Ghana among the better-performing economies in West Africa and slightly above the growth projections earlier issued by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

According to the report, Ghana’s macroeconomic conditions are expected to improve steadily, supported by easing inflationary pressures and stronger fiscal management.

The AfDB projects inflation to end 2026 at about 9 percent, while the country’s fiscal deficit is expected to narrow from 2.6 percent of GDP in 2026 to 2.2 percent in 2027.

The report also anticipates continued resilience in Ghana’s external sector, forecasting a current account surplus of 3 percent of GDP in 2026 before easing slightly to 2.7 percent in 2027.

Across the sub-region, West Africa’s economy is expected to grow by 4.7 percent in 2026, driven largely by improved agricultural production, agro-processing activities, and sustained investment in infrastructure, transport and energy.

Despite the positive outlook, the Bank warned that African economies still face risks from geopolitical tensions, rising global oil and fertilizer prices, and lingering supply chain disruptions.

It therefore urged governments across the continent to strengthen domestic revenue generation, improve fiscal discipline, and deepen regional trade integration to enhance long-term economic resilience.
