Afia Korankyewaa, a member of the UP+ communication team, has admitted responsibility for her controversial remarks about the Manhyia Palace and appealed to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for forgiveness.
In an apology issued on Thursday, October 8, Korankyewaa expressed regret over her choice of words, extending her plea to traditional leaders at Manhyia and members of the public who were offended by her comments.
She maintained that she had no intention of disrespecting the Asantehene or bringing the revered palace into disrepute, describing her service at Manhyia as a privilege and an honour.
“I take full responsibility for my choice of words and the way it was interpreted,” she said.
The communication team member said she had reflected on the controversy and recognised the need to exercise greater humility, restraint and caution in her public statements and conduct.
Making a direct appeal to the Asantehene and the Palace, she said: “I humbly kneel and beg for forgiveness from His Majesty and from Manhyia. Please forgive me.”
Korankyewaa also urged the public to disregard what she described as distortions and falsehoods being circulated by political actors, whom she accused of attempting to create confusion around the controversy.
Despite the public reaction to her earlier comments, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the Manhyia Palace and her commitment to serving Asanteman.
Her apology comes amid public controversy surrounding the remarks, which prompted reactions from sections of the public.
It remains unclear whether the Manhyia Palace has formally responded to her appeal for forgiveness.
The apology marks Korankyewaa’s public acknowledgment of responsibility for her statements, although the Palace’s position on the matter has not been disclosed.
