Management of Akosombo Hotels Limited (AHL), operators of the Volta Hotel in Akosombo, has firmly denied claims suggesting the hotel’s three-star rating has been revoked due to alleged mismanagement and leadership failures.
In a detailed rejoinder dated July 31, AHL dismissed the widely circulated media reports as inaccurate and misleading, emphasizing that the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is yet to finalize its reassessment of the hotel’s star rating following a recent inspection.
“The claim that AHL’s three-star rating has been revoked is inaccurate,” the statement stressed. “Over 80% of the recommendations made by the GTA during its inspection have already been implemented. We are currently awaiting a re-inspection.”
AHL also addressed allegations from a group of self-described concerned staff, who accused management of mismanaging several key projects. The hotel, however, offered detailed explanations to counter the claims and cited financial constraints as a major factor influencing the pace of some renovations and repairs.
For instance, AHL explained that phased repairs on its swimming pool are ongoing due to budgetary limitations. On refrigeration systems, it clarified that obsolete components have been upgraded with new and digitized systems, while the cold-room units are now fully operational.
Responding to criticisms about vehicle leasing arrangements and drainage works, the hotel maintained that all processes were conducted transparently and internally, with cost-effectiveness in mind.
“These projects have all been handled with due diligence, and there is no evidence of impropriety,” the statement emphasized.
Management further highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade the facility, including the Nunya Rooms Expansion Project, renovation of the Organisation Conference Room, and plans to revamp the laundry facility and remaining hotel rooms.
AHL also accused the media outlet classfmonline.com and others of publishing misleading reports that risk damaging the reputation of one of Ghana’s longest-standing indigenous hospitality brands. The hotel appealed for responsible journalism and cautioned against what it described as smear campaigns.
“Volta Hotel remains your haven of comfort, hospitality, and natural beauty in Ghana,” the statement concluded, affirming management’s commitment to transparency, staff engagement, and service excellence.
The rejoinder comes at a time when public confidence in hospitality sector standards is under scrutiny, and AHL’s response aims to both clarify the record and reinforce its position as a reputable destination in Ghana’s tourism landscape.
