Amin Mohammed Adam has raised concerns over the lack of clarity in Ato Forson’s statement regarding the NDC’s promise to abolish the betting tax, suggesting that it created unnecessary confusion.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Adam questioned whether Forson fully understood the specifics of the tax policy outlined in the party’s manifesto.
“I was really not sure whether the minister meant what was promised in their manifesto. He confused betting tax with taxes on other forms of lottery, and that raised suspicion for me,” he remarked.
He pointed out that Ghana’s tax laws make a clear distinction between betting and other forms of lotteries, which include games of chance and lotto.
“The law provides a definition for betting and also defines lotteries, which encompass betting, games of chance, and lotto. So if you want to abolish betting tax, you must be specific,” Adam stressed.
He further argued that Forson’s statement left many questions unanswered, urging for clarity on whether the NDC intends to scrap the betting tax alone or include taxes on other lottery winnings.
“Is he talking about abolishing betting tax, tax on lotto winnings, or tax on winnings from all games of chance? Which one exactly?” he asked.
His remarks highlight the ongoing debate over the NDC’s taxation policies, particularly concerning the gaming and lottery industry.
