Nana Ama Bonsu I has officially been unveiled as the new Asantehemaa, assuming one of the most revered traditional leadership positions in the Asante Kingdom following the death of Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III in 2025.
The unveiling ceremony, held in accordance with Asante custom and tradition, formally introduced Nana Ama Bonsu I as the Queenmother of the Asante Kingdom, ending months of vacancy in the prestigious office.
The installation marks the beginning of a new era in the kingdom’s traditional leadership, with Nana Ama Bonsu I expected to play a central role in preserving Asante culture, customs and values.
As Asantehemaa, she will also serve as a key adviser to the Asantehene on matters relating to governance, succession and the welfare of the kingdom, while championing issues affecting women, children and communities.
The office of the Asantehemaa is regarded as one of the most influential institutions within the Asante Kingdom, with its occupant expected to promote social cohesion, support conflict resolution and safeguard the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage.
Nana Ama Bonsu I succeeds Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, whose passing in 2025 left the position vacant and prompted the traditional processes leading to the selection of a new Queenmother.
Traditional leaders, dignitaries and members of the Asante Kingdom attended the unveiling ceremony to witness the formal presentation of Nana Ama Bonsu I and reaffirm their commitment to the customs and institutions of the kingdom.
Her assumption of office is expected to strengthen the traditional governance structure of the Asante Kingdom while continuing the legacy of leadership, service and cultural preservation associated with the office of the Asantehemaa.
