The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is targeting stronger electoral gains in the Ashanti Region, with party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah expressing confidence that the region could eventually split its votes equally between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking during his “thank you” tour at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua Constituency, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said changing political attitudes in the Ashanti Region were creating new opportunities for the NDC.
According to him, voters are becoming more focused on development and improved living conditions rather than traditional party loyalties.
He argued that unlike in the past, when the Ashanti Region was widely regarded as an exclusive stronghold of the NPP, many residents now assess political parties based on infrastructure, jobs, healthcare, education and the fulfilment of campaign promises.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah said the NDC could make major inroads in the region if the government successfully completes inherited projects, initiates new development programmes and works closely with traditional leaders and local communities.
He stressed that grassroots mobilisation and effective political strategies would be critical to achieving that goal.
The NDC Chairman also urged government appointees to work hard in their respective sectors and communities to justify the trust placed in them and help improve the party’s image.
He further called on party members to remain united and support efforts to deliver development projects across the country.
The District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua, Ibrahim Issahak, used the occasion to highlight ongoing government projects in the district, including interventions in infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, energy, water and sanitation.
