National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, is calling on traditional and religious leaders across Ghana to rally behind a nationwide campaign to confront corruption and restore integrity in public leadership.
Speaking during a durbar of chiefs and residents in the Atewa East Constituency as part of his “Thank You Tour” in the Eastern Region on Thursday, September 25, 2025, Mr. Nketiah emphasized that national healing requires a united front — one that involves not only political leadership but also moral and cultural custodians of society.
“We call on traditional leaders, imams, and clergy to support us,” he urged. “We believe what we are doing will help heal Ghana and preserve what Dr. Bawumia himself admits was damaged, so that Ghana can remain strong.”
The NDC Chairman’s comments come amid an ongoing wave of arrests of former government officials over allegations of corruption and embezzlement. While he confirmed that the clampdown is far from over, Mr. Nketiah framed the actions not just as political accountability, but as a moral imperative.
“As for the arrests, we have only just begun — we haven’t gotten far yet,” he remarked. “Anyone who has taken advantage of the country’s resources or embezzled state funds must be held accountable.”
Rather than focusing solely on punishment, the Chairman positioned the anti-corruption drive as part of a broader national renewal process — one he believes must be supported by all sectors of society.
The appeal for unity against graft comes at a time when public trust in institutions remains fragile, with many Ghanaians demanding greater transparency and responsibility from both past and current officeholders.
