Hagan Nyamekye Kalala has revealed that the Awutu-Senya West District Assembly invested in more than 30 development projects in 2025 to improve education, healthcare, water supply, sanitation, and roads across the district.
Speaking during the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Awutu Bereku, the DCE said the projects were funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund in collaboration with the area’s Member of Parliament.
According to him, major projects currently underway include Community-based Health Planning and Services compounds at Akrampah and Oklu Nkwanta, classroom blocks at Bosomabena and Loye, and mechanised boreholes in several communities.
Mr Kalala disclosed that projects such as a nurses’ quarters, market, and the Bontrase Senior High School had already been completed and were awaiting commissioning.
He further announced that the Community Water and Sanitation Agency had secured support to construct a water pumping station at Papaase to provide potable water to surrounding communities including Bontrase, Ahentia, Ofaakor, and Adawukwa.
On government flagship programmes, the DCE said 25 percent of the district’s Common Fund allocation had been reserved for the construction of a 24-hour market at Bawjiase in line with a campaign promise by John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Kalala also highlighted progress under the government’s “nkoko nketsenketse” poultry initiative, revealing that more than 9,200 chicks survived and were distributed to over 300 beneficiaries and institutions in the district.
He added that the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre had begun registering interested residents under a programme to provide “aboboyaa” tricycles on flexible payment terms to support livelihoods and small businesses.
The DCE, however, urged assembly members and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and improve revenue mobilisation to accelerate development across the district.
