Deputy Defence Minister Threatens Legal Action After Publication Lists Him Among Appointees Who Missed Deadline
Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi has publicly refuted claims made by Fourth Estate regarding his failure to declare his assets, accusing the media outlet of publishing false information.
On April 30, 2025, Fourth Estate reported that 55 appointees under former President John Dramani Mahama had failed to meet the March 31 deadline for asset declarations. Genfi’s name was included in the list of those who allegedly ignored the deadline.
In a swift response via social media, Genfi demanded a retraction and threatened legal action, stating, “For the avoidance of doubt, I filed my assets declaration with the Auditor General on March 28, 2025, at 4 pm, and I have the official receipt to that effect.” He further accused Fourth Estate of damaging his reputation and warned the outlet to correct their error within 24 hours or face legal consequences.
The publication, which has sparked controversy, now faces pressure to address the minister’s claims or risk further escalation of the matter. Genfi’s statement highlights a growing tension between political figures and the media, especially regarding transparency and accountability.
