The management of Central University has suspended all remaining activities scheduled for this year’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week as investigations continue into the alleged arrest of five individuals linked to the institution by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
In a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, management described the suspension as a precautionary measure aimed at allowing authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident, which has attracted significant public attention.
According to the university, media reports suggested that the individuals were connected to an incident that allegedly occurred during a programme associated with the SRC Week celebrations.
Management said it has commenced engagements with NACOC and other relevant state agencies to obtain verified information and gain a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the matter.
“At this stage, the university is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter,” the statement noted.
The university stressed that investigations remain ongoing and urged members of the public to avoid speculation or drawing premature conclusions until the facts have been established through the appropriate legal and investigative processes.
While announcing the suspension of SRC Week activities, management reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment and upholding the values of discipline, responsibility and integrity within the university community.
The institution explained that the decision would also provide an opportunity to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and assess existing protocols governing student events and campus activities.
Central University further reaffirmed its dedication to academic excellence, character formation and the holistic development of its students, assuring stakeholders that appropriate actions would be taken based on the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The suspension comes as authorities continue to probe the alleged incident, with the university indicating that further updates will be provided when official information becomes available.
