Tension is brewing in Awudua, the historical seat of the Apinto Traditional Council, in the Western Region over succession to the revered Apinto Divisional seat, marred by alleged violations of traditional procedures.
Ghanaian RADAR has learned that chiefs and Royal family members, particularly the Faibil Family tasked with nomination, strongly decry how initial selection processes are being manipulated to favour Famiyeh. He was not nominated by the Faibil family.
Prominent chiefs, speaking anonymously, confirmed tradition dictates the Faibil Gate nominated Kwabena Damoah, submitting his name to the Tufuhene for the installation process. They expressed surprise and concern when Famiyeh’s name emerged after Damoah’s proper nomination.
One chief voiced unhappiness and worry about spiritual repercussions from steering the process towards Famiyeh, whose name wasn’t presented by the Faibil family. He highlighted looming tension in Awudua, pledging they would work hard to ensure correct procedures are followed to avoid conflict.
The chief assured everything possible would be done to adhere to truth and right procedures for a peaceful installation. He stressed Awudua’s peace-loving people won’t allow a few to create conflict over this seemingly straightforward issue.
Awudua boasts a rich history of trade with European gold traders and tourist attractions like Fort Ruychaver, a key archaeological site for universities globally.
The Apinto Royal family has two Gates: Faibil and Angu. Nana Kwabena Angu II ruled for 37 years until his death in April 2022. With two gates, succession now falls to the Faibil family. The Faibil family comprises three Royal Lineages; stool selection is based on hierarchy, character, and other attributes.
