The High Court in Accra has temporarily cleared the way for 792 newly trained medical doctors to challenge an examination requirement that could delay their provisional registration and entry into housemanship.
The Human Rights Court 2 has granted an interim injunction restraining the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Health from enforcing the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination (CRE) requirement against the affected graduates pending further proceedings.
The ruling follows an application by the Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations (FGMSA) and the affected students challenging the requirement.
In a statement dated Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the federation said the court’s order effectively halts the examination, which was scheduled for Thursday, October 22.
The Stage 1 CRE had been made a mandatory requirement for the affected medical graduates to obtain provisional registration and commence their housemanship.
The injunction will remain in force pending the hearing of the substantive case and an injunction application on notice filed by the federation and the students.
FGMSA has urged all parties involved in the dispute to comply with the court’s directive while the legal process continues.
The federation maintained that decisions affecting the professional progression of graduating medical and dental students must be guided by the law, fairness and due process.
It also expressed appreciation to its legal team, the affected graduating classes and medical and dental students for their support throughout the proceedings.
The court’s decision represents an interim measure and does not constitute a final determination of the legality of the examination requirement.
FGMSA said it would provide further updates on the case through its official communication channels as the proceedings progress.
