The Court of Appeal is set to rule today, Wednesday, August 12, on whether former MASLOC Chief Executive Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu should immediately benefit from the court’s decision acquitting and discharging her.
The hearing centres on an application by the Attorney-General, who is seeking a stay of execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment while the State pursues a further appeal.
The Attorney-General argues that allowing the acquittal to take immediate effect could undermine the State’s legal challenge, particularly if Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu leaves Ghana before the appeal process is concluded.
According to the State, suspending the effect of the judgment is necessary to preserve the status quo pending the determination of its appeal.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in 2024 and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of offences including causing financial loss to the state.
However, the Court of Appeal later overturned that conviction, acquitting and discharging her.
The ruling expected today will determine whether the Court of Appeal’s decision takes immediate effect or remains suspended while the Attorney-General continues the appeal process.
The case has become one of the most closely watched criminal appeals involving a former public official, with the outcome expected to shape the next phase of the legal battle between the State and the former MASLOC CEO.
