The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has launched an investigation into the hacking of President John Dramani Mahama’s verified X account after it was used to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes.
According to the CSA, unauthorized access to the account was detected on Monday, March 17, when suspicious posts advertising a project called Solanafrica appeared. The posts falsely claimed links to the Solana blockchain and promised seamless, cost-free payments across Africa, raising concerns of a potential scam targeting unsuspecting users.
The breach has sparked public debate over the security of high-profile political accounts, with many questioning the safeguards in place to prevent such incidents.
In response, the CSA has assured the public that it is collaborating with X and other relevant agencies to resolve the issue and strengthen protective measures against future cyber threats.
This incident underscores the growing risks of cyberattacks on political figures and the need for enhanced cybersecurity protocols to prevent the spread of misinformation and financial scams.
