As Ghana commemorates its 68th Independence Day, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged citizens to prioritize unity, peace, and economic development to build a stronger nation.
In a Facebook post on March 6, Dr. Bawumia reflected on the historical significance of the occasion, emphasizing the need for national cohesion and collective effort in driving Ghana’s progress.
“I wish all Ghanaians a happy 68th Independence Day. It is my prayer that as citizens of Ghana, we shall continue to live in peace, unified for political and economic growth, and solidify our common heritage,” he stated.

Linking his message to this year’s theme, *”Reflect, Review, Reset,”* he highlighted the importance of reassessing Ghana’s journey and working together to foster development.
“We are one people, one nation with a common destiny. May our future be filled with happiness, cohesion, and positive transformation,” he added.
This year’s celebration took on a scaled-down approach due to economic challenges, with the main event held at Jubilee House instead of the traditional Black Star Square. The ceremony featured a Military Guard of Honour, cultural performances, and a poetry recital by a senior high school student.
Ghana’s Independence Day, which marks the country’s liberation from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, continues to serve as a moment of reflection on the nation’s achievements and aspirations for the future.
