After years of championing transparency and accountability in Ghana’s public financial management, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae has officially stepped down as Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), bringing a significant chapter of institutional reform and leadership to a close.
In a statement released on April 17, 2025, Dr. Osae confirmed his exit, offering heartfelt thanks to colleagues, partners, and stakeholders who supported his tenure.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank all of you for the support, advice, and the opportunity to be of service to God and country,” he wrote, marking the end of his service with humility and appreciation.
A respected governance and public financial management expert, Dr. Osae has been widely credited with reinvigorating the IAA and modernizing Ghana’s internal audit systems. Under his leadership, the agency intensified its role in ensuring value for money across government institutions and bolstered compliance with financial regulations, reinforcing a culture of transparency.
Dr. Osae’s tenure also saw a renewed push for independence and capacity-building for internal auditors across public sector entities, making the IAA a central player in Ghana’s broader anti-corruption efforts.
Though his next steps have yet to be disclosed, many see his departure as the closing of a progressive era for the IAA, and the beginning of a period of reflection and potential recalibration for the agency’s future direction.
