The 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM) has marked its 44th anniversary with a renewed commitment to advancing women’s empowerment while paying tribute to its late former president, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
In a statement issued on Friday, Project Director Mrs. Peace Aryee said the anniversary was both a celebration of progress and a moment of reflection following the recent passing of the former First Lady, whose leadership helped shape the movement’s mission.
According to the statement, Nana Konadu’s advocacy transformed the lives of countless women and girls by promoting leadership, equality, and opportunities for empowerment across communities.
“For 44 years, we have stood at the forefront of change, challenging inequality, fostering leadership, and building pathways where none existed,” the statement noted.
The movement said although it continues to mourn its former leader, her legacy remains alive through the achievements of women and girls inspired by her work.
As part of its anniversary message, DWM also called on the government to fast-track the implementation of affirmative action policies and expand educational opportunities for women.
The organisation said greater inclusion of women in leadership and national development remains critical to building stronger communities.
It also expressed gratitude to members, partners, and supporters for sustaining its mission over the decades, pledging to continue advocating for a future where every woman and girl can thrive.
